Anima: The Masquerade
The Religion in Eternia is very different than most religions in most fantasy settings, rather than have specific gods for any given idea or concept, the elements are worshiped instead. There are four major towers, each dedicated to the four major elements, Earth, Fire, Water and Air. The reason for this is that there is no evidence for any gods at all, but if certain rites at these towers are not performed then things stop working. (i.e. If a pilgrim does not preform his ritual at the water temple, the water around the world starts stagnating)
There are other elements, known as minor elements, that we know exist because magic can manipulate them. They are known as light, darkness, essence, illusion, creation and destruction. Each element, minor or major, have churches abroad for those to seek guidance for and petition rites for, in these churches you will usually find priests, informal religious guides that are there for the general public to ask advice from.
Inside the tower are the clerics and oracles, oracles are known as the mouth of a tower, because they can leave the tower on any official basis. clerics, cannot. They’re main job is to train and care for the towers, make sure they do not fall to decay, and preform certain rites, the Grand Cleric of any given tower is the one who can approve of any such rites and trains the Oracle if no Oracle is around to train a new Oracle.
